Ali Kulunyar (b. 2000 Ankara, Türkiye) is a visual artist whose practice has long been guided by drawing and image-making as a means of navigating both the self and the world. At eighteen, Kulunyar relocated to Milan, where he completed a degree in Graphic Design at Nuovo Academia Di Belli Arti (NABA) and shortly after completed a Master’s in Arts Management at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore. Kulunyar’s practice emerges from personal experiences of anxiety, displacement, and the emotional pressures of contemporary life. Living in Milan while maintaining a close connection to Türkiye has fostered a dual perspective that informs his aesthetic and supports the development of a visual language grounded in both intimacy and cultural hybridity. Working across painting, drawing, iron and mixed media, Kulunyar investigates themes of identity, vulnerability, and the silent struggles of young people in search of belonging. Recurring motifs of concealment, disclosure, and the construction of personal safe spaces reflect the tension between inner landscapes and the shared environments, both digital and physical, that individuals inhabit. For Kulunyar, exhibiting work is a way of transforming personal narratives into collective reflection. Through ongoing projects, the artist seeks to contribute to wider discourse on youth, identity, and the emotional realities of the present moment, while continuing to expand his visual language and experiment with new forms.
